Rachel Blumenthal was appointed Second Flute/Piccolo of the Santa Fe Opera in 2019, and she has been Principal Flute of the Sarasota Opera since 2017. Prior to that, she held positions in the Des Moines and Battle Creek Symphonies. When she is not in Sarasota or Santa Fe, Rachel maintains an active freelance career in Chicago, where she has performed with the Chicago Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Grant Park Music Festival, and many other ensembles. Rachel has been a fellow at numerous summer music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Center, the National Repertory Orchestra, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Brevard Music Center. Rachel teaches in the Department of Chamber Music at the University of Chicago in addition to maintaining a lively private teaching studio. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University.
